Liberal Democrats have taken the opportunity on International Women’s Day to highlight female volunteers, activists, Councillors and candidates who are involved in B&NES politics.
“Politics can be very male dominated as a field, but in Bath and North East Somerset Liberal Democrats, women support other women who want to make a difference.”
This was the message from B&NES Liberal Democrats on International Women’s Day, which was held yesterday (Sunday 8th March).
The B&NES Lib Dem twitter feed @BathnesLD was taken over by examples of female volunteers, activists, Councillors and candidates who are involved in Liberal Democrat politics in B&NES.
Parliamentary Candidate for Bath, Steve Bradley, said: “The Liberal Democrats will be fielding 12 female candidates for Council in the Bath Parliamentary seat, with women standing in at least 9 of the wards.
“Voters in 3 wards in Bath will be able to vote for two female Liberal Democrat Council candidates. It shows that we’re really taking seriously the need to get more women involved in politics on a local level.”
Leader of the Council, Paul Crossley added: “In one of the seats where current Lib Dem Councillors are standing down, the Liberal Democrat candidate is a Bath Spa University student – because we’re also very committed to getting young people involved in politics.
“Everyone should have a say in their area, and so it’s important politicians reflect people from all communities, lifestyles and backgrounds.”
Overall, the Liberal Democrats will be aiming to increase the number of female Councillors in the city by five.
