Plans to demolish kennels near Keynsham and build seven homes

A planning application has been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council to demolish kennels near Keynsham and build seven houses.

The scheme is for Latchets Kennels at Redlynch Lane in Chewton Keynsham.

The site was originally an agricultural poultry rearing holding, which was converted into kennels more than 40 years ago and ran as such until the recent closure of the business.

The site also, until recently, operated a number of other uses, including a pet care store, pet grooming shop and dog training facilities.

The wider site contains caravan storage areas which have been in operation for more than 30 years.

Planning permission was granted three years ago for the conversion of the kennels and associated buildings into four homes.

The latest planning application for a new small community of seven houses says it is appropriate development in the Green Belt and although outside of the housing development boundary, the site is in a relatively sustainable location.

“The scheme represents the efficient use of land and delivers seven dwellings of a high-quality design in an area with a chronic land supply shortage.”

Six two-bed houses and one three-bed house, designed to meet modern space and energy efficiency standards, are proposed.

The planning reference is 26/01249/FUL and the deadline for comments is 22nd May.
