A temporary southbound one-way system has been introduced on St James Parade in the city centre where a vault under the road began to collapse in early March.

Cracks began to appear in the road, due to the unstable vault below

There have been temporary two-way signals in place, but to provide the shortest possible diversion route for vehicles wanting to travel northbound, Bath & North East Somerset Council has now removed the vehicle entry restrictions in Avon Street, saying it will minimise disruption and ease congestion.

The one-way system began on Friday 17th April and looks set to continue until Thursday 7th May.

The council said: “We continue to work with the property owners and will provide further updates.”
