Odd Down Cycle Circuit will be open to all over the Christmas holidays with special family sessions put on by the Council.
On Mondays 23rd & 30th December (1pm-3pm) and Thursdays 26th December & 2nd January (10am-12noon), all the family can enjoy a fun and safe ride together for a special introductory price of just £1 per person. A limited number of bikes and scooters will also be available to hire for an extra £1.
Cllr David Dixon (Lid-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council is keen to give everyone the chance to get active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. This is a great opportunity to have some festive family fun in the open air and ‘blow out the cobwebs’ – especially with our Boxing Day session from 10am to 12noon.
“For extra fun; you can come to Odd Down Cycle Circuit dressed up – with prizes being awarded for the most creatively decorated bikes/scooters or festive/fun outfits!”
The regular Monday sessions for the over-50s will run as normal at the circuit from 12noon-1pm.
This is another great opportunity to get rid of those extra calories with a gentle ride on the Odd Down Cycle Circuit. The circuit will be open from 11am-1pm on Saturday 28th December with Wheels for All bikes available. The cost is £1.50 with your own bike or £3 if you want a loan bike.
Wheels for All is Bath & North East Somerset Council’s initiative to improve cycling opportunities for anyone who may have difficulty riding a traditional two-wheeled bike. It offers a range of ‘inclusive’ bikes to help everyone enjoy cycling together – including a variety of trikes and hand cycles as well as some conventional bikes.
Also on Saturday 28th December and starting at 11am; the ‘Turkey Twizzler’ off-road mountain bike ride will be heading out from the Odd Down Circuit via the Two Tunnels Greenway to explore the trails around Wellow and Combe Hay.
The ride will take about 3 ½ hours and cover around 25km in all, including some technically challenging terrain. The ride is open to anyone with an off-road capable bike and some experience of riding off road, including young adults (under 18s will need parental consent and under 16s will need to be accompanied). Riders will need to wear a helmet and are encouraged to bring a spare inner tube.
The ride will include a lunch stop at the cafe at Wellow Trekking Centre. It will be led by Andy Stewart who is an experienced ride leader and coaches for the Sulis Scorpions Youth Cycling Alliance at Odd Down Cycle Circuit.
