More thick fog is set to descend on Bath and the surrounding areas tonight, as this morning’s weather continues to affect large parts of the country.

The weather phenomena affected large areas of Bath this morning, with Lansdown and the A46 towards J18 of the M4 having very little visibility.

It will start to build again in Bath in the early hours of tomorrow morning, with expectations it will be thicker and stay longer throughout Friday.

Local residents are being warned to take extra caution while they drive or travel across the area.

The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “Thursday morning’s fog, having cleared inland, will have persisted through much of the day in some coastal locations and may begin to spread inland again quite early on Thursday evening.

“However, across most inland areas fog patches will form more widely overnight into Friday morning. As was the case on Thursday, not everywhere in the yellow area will see fog, but where it does form it is likely to be dense.

“Fog will then slowly clear through the mid morning period.”

The AA have issued the following advice: “When there’s fog around visibility can seriously deteriorate in a matter of seconds. Be extra vigilant and drive only as fast as conditions allow and maintain a greater distance between you and the car in front.”

“At a junction with limited visibility, stop, wind down the window, and listen for traffic. When you are sure it is safe to emerge, do so positively and do not hesitate in a position that puts you directly in the path of approaching vehicles.”
