The Met Office has issued a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain this weekend, with the possibility of localised flooding and some disruption.
While most areas will stay dry, there is the chance that stormy weather will develop across the south of the country on Saturday afternoon, 10th June.
The yellow weather warning, in force between 2pm and 9pm, says torrential rain of around 30-40mm per hour is possible. Some areas could be affected by multiple showers, in excess of 60mm.
As well as rain, hail, strong gusts of wind, and lightning will be additional hazards.
Despite the warning, most places will remain dry, or only see small amounts of rain, due to the well-scattered nature of the heaviest showers.
Due to the recent prolonged dry weather, there is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
An amber heat alert has also been issued for the South West, in place from 9am on Friday 9th June to 9am on Monday 12th June.
Temperatures over the weekend are expected to rise to around 27ºc, with 25ºc heat likely to continue through the coming week.
