The B3110 Midford Road, the main route through Midford, is to remain closed throughout the weekend due to further movement after a landslide on Wednesday.
Avon and Somerset Police initially closed the B3110 on Wednesday after the landslip in Midford. It was re-opened later in the evening after a clear-up operation had taken place, but was then closed again due to safety concerns.
The road closure will remain in place over the weekend.
With the inclement wet weather and forecast conditions, it is unsafe to conduct the detailed investigatory works required to consider how to stabilise the land bank.
It is anticipated that on Monday this investigatory work will take place and the utility company will attend to deal with overhead cable issues in the locality.
Drivers are urged to avoid this road as there is no through access at all.
Diversions are in place following the A367 Wellsway & Wells Road then A36 Rossiter Road, Pulteney Road, Beckford Road and Warminster Road.
The Council is working with the Insurance Company of the private landowner and their representatives to resolve the landslip situation as soon as possible.
The Council are also thanking people for their patience whilst this urgent work is carried out.
The landslip is believed to have been caused by a build up of rain during the past few weeks, which caused movement in the hill.
A further announcement on the road closure is expected to be made on Monday.
