A man who was arrested by police in connection with the murder of Melanie Hall has been released without charge, following a decision by the CPS.
The 45-year-old man was expected to answer bail on Monday, 1st December, but was sent a letter from the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service), explaining they had decided not to prosecute.
They say there was insufficient evidence to charge the man over the murder of Miss Hall.
He was arrested by Avon and Somerset police on 19th November, 2013 on suspicion of murder and had been bailed pending the CPS charging decision.
CPS Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Nicola Haywood said: “Having carefully reviewed the file presented to the CPS by Avon and Somerset police in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, I have decided that there is insufficient evidence to charge anyone in relation to the disappearance on Melanie Hall.”
Det Chief Inspector Gareth Bevan, of Avon and Somerset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Unit, said: “We respect the decision of the CPS and will continue to work with them as this investigation continues.”
Melanie Hall, 25, worked at the RUH here in Bath and disappeared after a night out at Cadillacs night club in Walcot Street.
Workmen discovered her remains at the side of a motorway near Thornbury in Gloucestershire on 5th October, 2009.
She was identified as the victim two days later.
