Age UK B&NES is looking for new volunteers to help run its popular lunch clubs in the City of Bath.
The clubs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at St Michael’s Day Centre in Bath between 10.30am and 2pm.
Janet Dabbs, chief executive of Age UK B&NES, said: “We really need some new volunteers to help us serve the lunches and also someone to help fetch them from Ralph Allen School. Volunteers just need to be chatty and friendly and to commit to a few hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday.”
The catering team from Ralph Allen School has recently taken over cooking the lunches and offer a range of dishes such as honey-roast ham with roast potatoes and vegetables; pork and leek sausages; curries; fruit crumbles; bread and butter pudding and fruit salads.
Food is sourced locally wherever possible and cooked from fresh on the school premises.
“We’re very excited to be working with Ralph Allen School. Working with the school means we get really good meals and good value for money,” said Janet. “We’d love to develop our relationship further and get the children involved with Age UK B&NES too.
“Our lunchclubs have been running for about 25 years and are very popular. They’re a great opportunity for older people to meet, chat and enjoy a very reasonably-priced lunch with friends.”
The lunchclubs cost £4 to attend, which includes a two-course lunch. People interested in attending should call 01225 466135 in advance to book.
Age UK B&NES also has a number of other volunteer roles it is looking to fill. These include a new volunteer benefits home visitor in Bath. The role involves helping people to complete forms, write letters, make phone calls and get the help they need.
Walks leaders are needed in Midsomer Norton and Keynsham and a receptionist in Keynsham.
