Two out of three lanes were blocked by the incident, between junctions 18 and 17 eastbound, which was first reported to the emergency services at 7.25am.

Traffic is being allowed passed the scene via the hard shoulder, though there are several miles of queuing vehicles behind.

Avon & Somerset Police said they were not aware of any serious injuries.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys.
