Bath MP Ben Howlett joined parents outside the Bath Community Academy (BCA) on Wednesday, who are protesting against the planned closure of the school.

Ben said: “I have been working with the Department of Education, Ministerial Team and the Regional Schools Commissioner for the South West to ensure the voices of BCA parents are heard.

“I am concerned that the debate around closure could be perceived as a knee jerk reaction to the recent poor Ofsted report.

“I personally believe it is the worst case scenario that the school is closed and do not believe all possible avenues to keep the school open have yet been exhausted.

“I have been lobbying the Department of Education for additional funding to secure extra programmes to improve the educational performance at the school.

“In my mind, it is clear that no decision should be taken until the potential educational programmes are implemented and all additional measures exhausted.

“I will continue to press for additional support to be made available to parents and students. And I want to reassure parents, staff and students that I am doing everything I can to ensure the BCA remains open.”
