It’s been announced that the Bath Education Trust has been unsuccessful in its recent bid to open a new 420-pupil primary school in the city.

The Trust had hoped to open the new school later this year.
The Trust has not succeeded in its application to open the primary school focussing on STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.
The Trust’s application was not included in this week’s Department for Education announcement of Free Schools approved for opening.
Trust spokesman and City of Bath College Principal Matt Atkinson said: “We are obviously very disappointed that after more than a year working on this project our bid was unsuccessful.
“Local information indicates that over the coming years there will be a need for three new primary schools in Bath, so at some point this need will have to be addressed.”
The Trust had proposed a new two-form entry primary school with a 20 place centre for children with Special Educational Needs.
The application was put forward by members of the Bath Education Trust to bridge the gap between primary, secondary and further education.
Government officials originally asked for further information about the curriculum when the Trust submitted its application in May last year.
The Trust strengthened the curriculum section of the application and resubmitted its proposal in October last year.
Matt added: “Our application successfully demonstrated parental demand for this new type of school and we are grateful to everyone who expressed their support for the bid.
“Given the future need for new schools in Bath and the fact that local authorities can no longer open new schools, another proposer will have to come forward and we wish them well in their endeavours.
“The Bath Education Trust remains deeply committed to improving local education and we will continue to work in partnership with all parties concerned with the learning of children and young people.”
The proposers of the new school were Beechen Cliff School, City of Bath College, Hayesfield School, Ralph Allen School, Three Ways School and the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust.
