St John’s Church in Peasedown St John continued its active programme of children’s holiday clubs last Monday with a one-day festive extravaganza for primary-aged children.

Over sixty children took part in SJs Does Christmas – a full day of games, craft, fun, Christian teaching, and some Christmas challenges.

Rob Bubyer, the children’s pastor at St John’s Church organised the event. He said: ‘‘This was a festive end to our programme of children’s holiday clubs this year, which more lined up in 2015.

“SJs Does Christmas was a whole day that not only included Christmas fun and games, but also reminded children what the real meaning behind the occasion is.

“It gave children a biblical understanding of Christmas. We looked at three gifts we can have that come as a result of God’s ultimate Gift – Jesus!”

The one day event, through play and interactive games, gave children an understanding of these three gifts:

1. The Gift of Hope
Children learnt about the special role Jesus played in history.

2. The Gift of Love
Children learnt about the importance of being kind to others, and how to follow Jesus’ example of service and humility.

3. The Gift of Joy
Children learnt that the true meaning of Christmas is not something we should keep to ourselves. ‘A Saviour has been born. He is Christ the Lord.’

The holiday club ran from 9 am – 3 pm in St John’s Church, Church Road, on Monday 22nd December.

Straight after, a special service was held to showcase some of the work the children had completed during the day.

Rob added: “We also held a Christmas Service with mince pies and candy canes for all the family straight after the holiday club with a presentation from the children at ‘SJ’s Does Christmas’.
