There’s less than a week to go before Bath-born Queen of Cakes Mary Berry is to switch on the city’s Christmas Lights.

Tuesday evening’s entertainment programme starts at 5.30 pm with a warm up of local and community talent followed by the switch on.

Mary was a pupil at the High School in Bath where she first discovered her passion for cooking. For 60 years she has shared this passion with the nation’s cooks and has sold more than 5 million cookery books.

A new generation has been inspired by the Great British Bake Off and baking fever is sweeping the country, with more than 9 million people tuning in to see Mary Berry reveal the winner of this year’s competition.

The Bath Christmas Lights 2013 is co-ordinated by the Bath Business Improvement District (BID) Company and Bath & North East Somerset Council. Switching on the lights marks the start of the Christmas shopping season, an important driver for the local economy.

This year Bath Rugby stars will be rattling tins for a popular local cause, The Forever Friends Cancer Care Appeal.

The programme will feature Too Much Lipstick, a young band from City of Bath College and Bath based Vocal Works Gospel Choir.
