Avon and Somerset Police are renewing their appeal for information about an arson attack at a house in Bath, which happened last Tuesday evening while the residents were at home.
Extensive damage was caused to a property on Van Diemen’s Lane after its front door was deliberately set alight at around 9.40pm last Tuesday (3rd January).
An accelerant is believed to have been used to start the fire.
Detective Constable John Shanahan said: “This was a very nasty incident and we’re taking it extremely seriously.
“As part of our investigation we have reviewed CCTV footage, forensically examined the scene and carried out house to house inquiries but we also need the public’s help.
“Someone out there must know something and I’m appealing for them to come forward.
“Did you see anyone acting suspiciously around the time? Did you sell cans of petrol to anyone acting oddly last Tuesday or the days before?
“If you know anything please get in touch. This was a frightening experience for the residents who were at home of the time but who thankfully managed to escape unharmed.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference number 5217001782.
If you don’t want to speak to the police you can ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.
