Avon and Somerset Police are seeking the help of the public following the assault of a 78-year-old man in the Twerton area of Bath earlier this month.

It happened on Wednesday 5th October when the victim and his wife were walking their dog in the Cleeve Green area at about 8.30pm.

They noticed a number of youths were grouped near to a parked camper van, which had previously been damaged.

The victim’s partner questioned the group about previous damage that had been caused to the vehicle. One of the group started to become verbally abusive to her.

The suspect then raised her hands and the victim stepped in to try to calm things down but the suspect turned and attacked the man, hitting him a number of times in the head.

She then pulled his coat over his head, pulling him to the ground, where she tried to kick him before other members of the group pulled her away.

The group then ran off at the same time another group of young people came to assist the victim.

The victim suffered a cut to his head and an injured knee, during the incident.

A 15-year-old girl who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge.

Enquiries are continuing into the incident and officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have information to help.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact police in Bath on 101, quoting reference 5216222091.
