A man from Bath has been jailed and banned from certain areas of the city after admitting to thefts from cars and using a stolen bank card fraudulently.
38-year-old Jonathan Harwood, of Redland Park, was jailed for 24 weeks at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 19th January.
Magistrates also issued Harwood with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
The order prohibits him from going into the Twerton, Oldfield Park, Southdown and Whiteway areas of Bath.
The area is bordered in the north by the A36 Lower Bristol Road, south by Whiteway Road and Englishcombe Lane, west by Newton Brook and east by the A367 Wellsway.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Daniel Hatcliffe said: “We were able to identify Harwood through CCTV evidence and are glad the courts recognised the impact his offending was having on the community.
“He stole items ranging from loose change to bank cards, which he then attempted to use to make purchases.
“I hope people will be encouraged to report car crime to us. Ring 999 immediately if a crime is underway or the suspects are in the area, otherwise call 101 as soon as possible.”
PS Hatcliffe added that opportunist thieves have been known to break into a car to take a pair of sunglasses, so it’s important not to leave anything on view or anything of value inside.
He recommends making sure your car is locked and the alarm set every time, even if you’re just leaving it for a few minutes.
