Man arrested for fraud after claiming to need cash to reach wife in labour

Police investigating an incident in which a man called at a house in St Johns Road, Bath, and asked for money claiming his wife had gone into labour, have arrested a man.

The incident happened at about 10pm on Monday 8th January and was reported to police on Wednesday 10th January, after the householder realised that neighbours had also been approached.

A suspect was arrested at 1.40pm on Thursday 17th January on suspicion of fraud by false representation, and later released under investigation.

Police have said their enquiries are continuing.
