Robert Sparey, of Radstock Road in Midsomer Norton, appeared in court on Monday 26th January.
He pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Somerset Way in Paulton on 5th January. He also admitted driving without due care and attention.
Sparey had collided with the rear of a parked vehicle in icy conditions. The police were called, and he failed a roadside breath test.
He was arrested and at Keynsham Police Centre, the lower of two readings he gave revealed 81 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
The self-employed builder, who had a clean licence, was banned from the road for 18 months but the disqualification will be reduced by 25% if he completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
Sparey was fined £461 and must also pay a £184 surcharge and prosecution costs of £85.
There was no separate penalty for the careless driving offence, although his licence was endorsed.
