Avon and Somerset Police have said that the body of an elderly man was found in a field on the outskirts of Bath earlier this afternoon (Sunday).

Officers believe it may be the body of 76-year-old Bill Rowbrey who went missing in Bath yesterday afternoon (Saturday).

Formal identification has yet to take place and Mr Rowbrey’s family have been advised.

It’s been suggested that increased police activity and the arrival of two air ambulances to Larkhall Recreation Ground this afternoon is linked to the discovery.

Bill travelled with his wife to the city by coach yesterday but he failed to return to the coach after going to the toilet at Bath coach station.

He was last seen at about 2.30pm.

It was thought that Bill, described as forgetful and easily confused, may have got on the wrong coach to return to his home in West Somerset.

Police say he could have walked from the coach station and then become confused and lost in the city.

There were two possible sightings of Bill in the city centre.
