Detectives investigating the murder of the Bath woman Melanie Hall in 1996 have now asked the Crown Prosecution Service for a decision on whether to charge a suspect.
A 45-year-old man, who was arrested at his home in the city last November on suspicion of murder, has been further bailed until the beginning of December while the CPS considers the evidence against him.
Melanie Hall was 25 when she was last seen at a nightclub in Bath city centre.
Her remains were found on a motorway slip road in South Gloucestershire on 5th October, 2009.
The man was questioned for two days at a police station in Bristol after his arrest in November, and was released pending further enquiries by officers.
He was bailed until December, then re-bailed until April this year. He was again bailed in June whilst enquires continued.
Police detectives searched a property in Roundhill Park in Whiteway after his arrest, which is believed to be where the man used to live.
Miss Hall’s parents Steve and Pat have been kept updated with the developments.
Melanie Hall worked at the RUH here in Bath and disappeared after a night out at Cadillacs night club.
Workmen discovered her remains at the side of a motorway near Thornbury in Gloucestershire. She was identified as the victim two days later.
