Alice Park in Bath has become the first in the city to receive an innovative two-minute litter picking station as part of the ‘Your Park’ initiative by Your Park Bristol and Bath.
This concept in park litter picking is inspired by the actions of the surfing community and their successful 2-minute beach cleans across the South West.
The project aims to support local communities who want to see litter-free local green spaces by providing them with free to use litter pick equipment.
The new unit, developed in partnership with the 2 Minute Foundation, has been designed to help people pick litter safely and get involved in their local park.
Bath’s first station has been funded by Wessex Water.
Jennifer Staton, of Wessex Water, said “Wessex Water Foundation are really pleased to support this innovative 2 Minute Litter Pick station.
“Small projects like this help the local environment by enabling local people to get involved and do their bit to keep the park clean. It’s a great way for us to support the local community.”
Tony Hickman, owner of the Alice Park Café, will act as ‘guardian’ for the litter picking board and equipment, helping to store and care for it as part of his day-to-day operations.
Tony commented: “We’re delighted to be supporting this wonderful initiative. It’s very important to make sure people love the park and keep it clean.
“This litter station will really help make it happen. Please come along, use the station, make the park beautiful and have fun!”
Charlee Bennett, Chief Executive of Your Park Bristol and Bath, said: “Litter is a real problem in our parks. We loved this innovative idea which has really taken off on our coastline and we think it can work in our beloved parks.
“These new stations will help everyone take small actions to keep our parks nature-rich and litter-free.
“We’re delighted to work with our community partners; Alice Park Cafe and Wessex Water without whom this wouldn’t be possible. If you’re local to these parks – head over and have a go!”
