Because the shelters have to be lifted in by crane and this cannot be done while traffic is still running, unfortunately a road closure is needed.

The first shelter will be put in on Sunday 14th February, and the road will be closed from 7am to 7pm.

During this time will be no vehicle access to Westgate Buildings or Monmouth Street from James Street West.

Traffic will be diverted along James Street West then right at the junction with Charles Street.

Bus services which normally stop in Westgate Buildings will continue to run as normal, but use temporary stops close-by.

The following services will stop at James Street West, outside the Salvation Army building: 1, 14, 37, 38, 39

The following services will stop in Avon Street, outside the Bath College building: 21 (Newbridge Park & Ride), A4 (Airport Service)

In a statement, B&NES Council said: “The Council regrets the temporary inconvenience while the shelters are improved, and has timed this work to avoid the busiest periods such as the Half Marathon and the Easter Holidays.”

The second shelter will be installed sometime in April.
