Local residents are being encouraged to ‘Be a Hero’, and help the real life heroes of the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity to continue saving lives across the area.
Everyday the Critical Care Team save lives across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and parts of Wiltshire. But they couldn’t do it without the support of the public.
As part of National Air Ambulance Week, which takes place from 19th September, GWAAC is asking people to find their inner hero and raise money for them.
Each year the charity needs £2.3million to stay operational, yet they receive no day to day funding from the Government or National Lottery.
Head of Fundraising and Marketing Emma Carter said: “Our medical team are heroes, everyday they are there for people who are seriously ill or injured – saving lives.
“However without people fundraising for us they would not be able to provide this vital services. We know that there are a lot of heroes across our region, and we are asking you all to take on the challenge of raising money to keep us flying.”
GWAAC is the youngest air ambulance in England, but is one of the busiest. Last year the team attended 1,655 jobs, by helicopter and critical care car. On average they attend four jobs a day.
From selling cakes to running marathons or holding a dress down day at school, there are many ways that people can show their support.
Remember, every penny raised will go toward keeping the team operational, ensuring they can reach more people in need. Ultimately saving lives, and ensuring more families stay together.
