A charity based in Peasedown St John that supports the local community has been working over the Christmas period to help those most in need.
The Peasedown Community Trust, set up just after the first lockdown in June 2020, launched an initiative on 1st December to feed vulnerable families in the village.
The scheme saw over 50 residents being fed during the Christmas holidays, many of whom would have gone without otherwise.
Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, said: “We had a lot of requests for Christmas Hampers. So many residents are in need this year due to recently being made unemployed, experiencing a loss of income, or having to self-isolate due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our volunteer team spent a day before Christmas delivering food hampers to households so they would have something to eat on Christmas Day.”
As well as receiving many requests for meals, the charity also saw a large number of residents donate to the appeal.
Cllr Karen Walker added: “It’s been moving to hear from families who decided not buy each other gifts this year, but donate to the Peasedown Community Trust Christmas Appeal instead.
“Their generosity meant we could support even more people in need this Christmas time.”
