Local Works, a coalition of organisations campaigning for the Sustainable Communities Act, have thanked Bath MP Don Foster for his work in the role as Communities Minister.

Mr Foster has now been moved to the position of Chief Whip for the Liberal Democrats.

During his time in the Department for Communities and Local Government, Don Foster achieved several key milestones for the Sustainable Communities Act.

He ensured that results of all previously-submitted proposals were published, and he empowered parish councils to use the Act.

Steve Shaw, National Coordinator of Local Works said: “Campaigners continually ask politicians to do things and it is important to thank them when they do. We are sad to see Don Foster go. In his short stint as Communities Minister, he did a lot for the Sustainable Communities Act.

“He brought the power closer to home by enabling parish councils to use the Act. We thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best.”

Commenting further, Don Foster said: “It was a privilege to work closely with Local Works and I am proud of what we achieved together during my time as Communities Minister. However there is still more good work to be done and I wish Stephen Williams MP all the best in the role and I am confident he will be a great success.

“As for me, I am excited at the prospect of working with colleagues across Government and Parliament to ensure the continued success of the Coalition”
