MP Wera Hobhouse has praised the proposed housing development at the former gas works site at Bath Western Riverside.
The MP recently visited the site with Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Built Environment & Sustainable Development, Matt McCabe.
During her visit, Mrs Hobhouse was given a tour of the former gas works and was briefed on plans for the next stage of the development.
The council has submitted an outline planning application for up to 351 units at the second phase of Bath Western Riverside, with community engagement set to be undertaken ahead of any reserved matters applications.
Berkeley Homes has also submitted a complete planning application proposing 611 new homes, a new nursery, and other facilities at the site.
The development of Bath Western Riverside is part of the council’s work to create new housing in the city.
With the support of Homes England and the developers including Berkeley Homes and Crest Nicholson, the project is delivering homes and facilities on the brownfield site.
Wera Hobhouse commented: “I was delighted to see the plans for development and witness firsthand the council’s commitment to bringing much-needed new housing to the heart of Bath.
“The proposed new homes, along with a new nursery and other facilities, at the Bath gas works site will be an asset to our city.
“This project is a shining example of strategically developed planning and partnership working, particularly with Homes England that serves our community.”
