Last Friday Don Foster MP and Councillor Dine Romero visited Hayesfield Girls’ School to show support for the global ‘Send All My Friends to School,’ campaign.
The campaign brings together school children to voice the right to education that everyone should have across the world and especially focuses on the need to get all disabled children a good education.
Commenting, Don Foster said: “It is fantastic to see children across the UK supporting the right of everyone to get a good education.
“Ensuring that children globally can gain access to a quality education is essential if we wish to see a fairer society worldwide and the pupils of Hayesfield School and St. John’s Primary should be commended for raising awareness of such an important issue.
“We are lucky to live in a country where every child can go to school, regardless of whether they have a disability, but this is sadly not the case everywhere.”
Out of the 54 million children across the world who don’t attend school over a third are disabled and the campaign aims to get world leaders to do more to address this worrying situation.
Councillor Dine Romero, Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth at B&NES Council, added: “I completely support the campaign that all children should be able to access good education regardless of their personal circumstances, or of politics.
“Governments across the globe must fulfil promises made on funding and commit this aid to education.”
The school is the second in Bath to have supported the campaign in recent weeks after three classes at St. John’s Catholic Primary School sent the Bath MP a collection of paper buddies to show their support.
