Lollipop people are urgently needed to fill six vacancies and help young people and parents cross the road safely outside local schools around Bath.
Over recent times, the Council has had an excellent coverage of lollipop patrols outside 42 local schools district-wide. But an exceptional period of maternity leave and sickness absence has left schools short at Chandag Juniors, Combe Down, St Martins Garden Primary, Midsomer Norton Primary, Widcombe Infants and Bathampton Primary.
At Midsomer Norton Primary relief School Crossing Patrol Sharon Mead said, “I help about a hundred people cross the road every morning and afternoon. It is rewarding doing a job at the heart of the community and I feel valued by the school, parents, and Council. Excellent training is provided so that you can do the job confidently at a fair rate of pay. I really hope that people are encouraged to help their community and apply.”
Anyone interested in becoming a School Crossing Patrol at the schools currently with vacancies, wish to be employed on a Casual basis, or express an interest in future vacancies at other locations can the Council on 01225 394922.
Councillor Roger Symonds (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Transport, added, “A comprehensive crossing patrol service is an important part of Bath & North East Somerset Council improving road safety for pupils, parents, and teachers. We are approaching the Autumn Term and urgently need permanent Patrol staff at some schools. I hope that as many people as possible can think about becoming a lollipop person and contact us to find out more.”
Bikeability cycling training, and school crossing patrols are all part of the Council’s effort to make walking and cycling to school a more safer and convenient option for parents and pupils.
