Travel and Tourism students have been helping out a popular Bath nursery as part of their studies.
The second year students having been working with the young children to experience first-hand the demands involved in working as a children’s representative.
The students have had to plan and deliver activities for the children, which have ranged from making masks and storytelling to singing and dancing.
Lauren Angove and Emily Scott are two of the students who have been spending time working at Zebedees nursery in Avon Street, opposite the College campus.
Lauren said: “It’s been a lot of fun and quite challenging too. The idea is that we get experience of the sort of pressure we would be under of we were working as a Children’s Rep, for example at a hotel abroad.
“The children have been wonderful and I’ve loved working with them, but it takes a lot of planning to make sure you can keep them occupied and entertained.”
Emily added: “It’s been a great experience for us and has given us the kind of experience we wouldn’t have had if we were in the classroom.”
Kate Hobbs, Deputy Head of Department, said “It has been a fantastic enrichment opportunity for the students, many of whom aspire to become holiday representatives.
“Working with Zebedees has given them a realistic insight into the role a Children’s Rep has in a holiday setting. We are very grateful for the support we have received from Zebedees Nursery and we are hoping to organise a similar event in the future.”
