Somerset celebrity Michael Eavis CBE will enjoy a festival atmosphere when he officially opens Midsomer Norton Primary School’s new £2.3 million development.
Pupils from the school will welcome the Glastonbury Festival founder today with a celebration event from 1.45pm featuring musical performances from the drumming group and choir in the new school hall, before all the children take part in a flag parade. Michael Eavis CBE will then cut the ribbon on the new school development shortly after 3pm.
The improvements carried out at the school over the last year replaced several poor condition temporary buildings and have provided a new entrance to the school, new school hall, servery, reception classrooms and nursery, and administrative suite.
Head Teacher Damian Knollys said: “All the pupils and teachers are really pleased with the new classrooms and hall. These improvements are supporting our teaching staff to continue to provide high standards of education to local children.”
Governors of Midsomer Norton Primary, who assisted in the scheme development, are delighted with the new accommodation and its benefits to pupils, staff and community.
The project was part of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s primary capital programme which prioritised investment totalling £8.8 million to replace very poor condition buildings at Batheaston Primary, Bathford Primary, Midsomer Norton Primary, and Weston All Saints Primary.
Councillor Paul Crossley (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Leader of Council, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to improving the quality of school buildings and helping schools to develop and extend their role in the local community, so that all of our pupils enjoy their childhood and are fully prepared for adult life. We are delighted that the children and staff of Midsomer Norton Primary School are getting so much out of their new classrooms and school hall.”
