The Council and NHS B&NES are calling on adults and families inspired by London 2012 this summer to get active and develop healthy habits to take into the future, through a new Change4Life initiative called Games4Life.

Adults and families can get their own personalised summer activity plan by completing the Games4Life questionnaires through a variety of outlets including the Council’s One Stop Shops, Children’s Centres and Libraries.  In addition, the Council will be distributing questionnaires at a number of events throughout the summer.

Games4Life activity packs are also being distributed to schools, from the Department of Health, so that teachers can engage children with ideas for an active summer before the summer holidays.

Councillor Simon Allen (Lib-Dem, Radstock), Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “The aim of Games4Life is to encourage families to get up and get going this summer. It can help them make healthy changes that don’t have to be expensive or difficult – small steps can really add up to big health benefits.

“Bath & North East Somerset Council aims to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Simply being up, about and moving can burn calories and help to fend off serious medical conditions like heart disease, cancer, stroke and type 2 diabetes.”

Paul Scott, Acting Director of Public Health, said: “The Council and NHS B&NES are committed to promoting active healthy lifestyles.  The Games4Life activity plans are a convenient and easy way of fitting activity into busy lives.”
