A proposal for a revised number of homes as part of the Council’s Core Strategy was approved last night at a meeting.

The independent Planning Inspector will now consider a plan for 12,700 new homes between 2011 and 2029 – this compares to 11,500 in the previous version of the Core Strategy.

In addition to the land proposed for new homes in the previous draft Core Strategy, the following locations were agreed:

a) Land adjoining Odd Down, Bath; 300 homes;

b) Land adjoining Weston, Bath; 300 homes;

c) Extension to MoD Ensleigh; 120 homes;

d) Land adjoining East Keynsham; 250 homes;

e) Land adjoining South West Keynsham; 200 homes;

f)  Land at Whitchurch; 200 homes;

Sites in the Somer Valley and Rural Areas to be determined through the Placemaking Plan; 500.

The proposals will help to support economic prosperity, provide choice in the homes market to local people, and prevent unplanned development.

All comments made by the public during the consultation will be considered directly by the Inspector. Unlike previous stages of the draft Core Strategy process, the Council will not be receiving comments. In June/ July 2013, the Public Examination continues.

There will be a range of surgery events taking place from March 26th 2013 for six weeks until 8th May. These will be held close to the locations identified for new homes.

You can find out more from 26th March 2013 via their website at http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/corestrategy.

People will also be able to write to the Council and view the proposals at key Council building information points, such as our Council Connect Officers and Libraries.

Further details of how people can have their say will be made available closer to the start of the consultation.
