A new Youth Service Vision and Young People’s Pledge has been adopted to help support young people’s services in response to local needs.
Following a review of the Council’s Youth Service and consultation with other organisations (including parish councils, community groups and youth groups such as Democratic Action For Bath and North East Somerset Youth), the Cabinet has agreed to focus resources on targeted youth work in addition to the work it currently does..
Bath & North East Somerset Council will support the voluntary sector by empowering local communities to deliver positive activities for young people, especially those aged 13-19. The Council will assist local people to start up new projects – offering hands-on practical support whilst operating safe and needs-led youth work, as well as helping with fund raising for larger groups.
Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib-Dem, Peasedown), Deputy Leader of Council and Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: “We want all children and young people to enjoy their childhood and to be well prepared for adult life. Therefore, Bath & North East Somerset Council, as well as providing a first class Youth Service, is supporting the voluntary sector to provide a diverse range of provision that meets young people’s ever-changing needs.
“This targeted approach to youth work, based on feedback from the local consultation, will empower our young people to reach their full potential and make a positive difference to their lives and communities.”
The new pledge has been signed by Cllr Hartley and Paula Bromley, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Principal Youth Officer, and will be put on display across all the Council’s youth hubs and youth service offices. It demonstrates the Council’s commitment to young people and how much it values their contribution to the community.
