A variety of groups across the local area received grants last week thanks to a popular summer festival in Peasedown St John.
Peasedown Youth Albion FC, Bath Stroke Group and Peasedown Methodist Church all applied for funding from Peasedown’s Party in the Park Fund, which was set up in 2009 to help community groups that serve the local area.
Now in its fourth year, Party in the Park attracts up to 3,000 people each summer and has quickly become one of the most popular family events in the local calendar.
Three years ago organisers decided that some of the money raised each year would be set aside for projects and individuals to apply for – so that Party in the Park really would be a benefit to the community.
Recently, cheques were presented to Peasedown Youth Albion FC, Bath Stroke Group and Peasedown Methodist Church – all of which were successful because of their level of service and dedication to the village.
Party in the Park Treasurer Joy Fraser said: “We received a high number of applications to our Grant Fund this year, many of which were groups we’d not donated to before. These ranged from church groups to support groups for vulnerable adults, and from lunch clubs to sport teams. It’s been an enjoyable experience to visit them all and see how this additional money will make a difference to people’s lives.
“Since we launched the Fund £1,500 has been donated to local good causes.”
Other groups that have been awarded funding over the last three years include:
- Laurel Farm Kindergarten
- Peasedown St John Scouts
- Peasedown Community Farm
- Peasedown Methodist Church Youth Project
- Explorer Scouts
- Peasedown St John Children’s Centre
- Beacon Hall Lunch Club
- Beacon Hall Kitchen Project
This year’s Party in the Park has moved to June to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
