Complete with flying robots, Bath Digital Festival is back for a second year. Running between the 14th and 24th March, this festival is a ten day celebration of Bath’s digital scene.
Highlights of this year’s festival include: Real World Hack, The SPARKies and X Media Lab Masterclasses. With a bursting calendar that involves a bundle of the major players in Bath’s digital scene, this is a festival guaranteed to keep Bathonians up to speed with technology.
If you’re a blogger or developer then Storming WordPress could be just the thing to give your latest WordPress venture the edge, if you’re looking for something a bit more casual, then Bath Tweetup might be just the tipple you’re after. Design Hack is a must for Photoshop fanatics and there’s even a gaming Techie Brekkie if you want an early morning mingle with the guys that make your interactive adventures.
The Balanescu Quartet will serenade you with electronic music if you’re lucky enough to bag a ticket to their Assembly Rooms show, and there’s a Family Weekend in Queen Square to keep both the kids and the ‘rents up to speed with digital media. Rail Girls Bath, an event for the technology lovers among the fairer sex, is brought to us by Bath College, to give would-be techies an insight into programming.
Illuminate Bath is back, in the form of Anthony Head’s Digitrope, with both the University of Bath and Bath Spa University teaming up to bring us another light based art show. Ignite, a global phenomenon where people are given a 5 minute slot to speak about a personal or professional passion, is on the 18th March and is perfect if you want to submerge yourself into a varied series of tech-related chatter.
With a weekend-long event at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Box on the agenda, as well as a gaggle of other exciting occurrences, this festival promises, not only a learning experience, but also a series of rendezvous crammed with digital-obsessed peeps of all ages. Started in 2012 by Mike Ellis, the festival came into being last year, fusing pre-existing events, such as BathCamp and BathSPARK, and adding a cornucopia of other digital experiences.
David Kelly, the Festival Director, explains, “The digital community in Bath is booming at the moment. A GWE Business West report accessed through Creative Bath shows that the creative & technology sector (what we’re calling digital!) contributes more to the Bath economy than retail & tourism combined.”
More events are still to be announce, so whether you’re a newbie, looking to get your first taste of the Raspberry Pi, or a you’re a pro, ‘fluent’ in HTML and looking for a ‘conversational’ partner, this is a series of events that will re-ignite your passion for tech.
