Review | Steve Bugeja – The Rondo Theatre

Steve Bugeja at 33 is a veteran with much experience of the Edinburgh Fringe, an annual event that he makes several witty educational points about, in case we don’t know what it is.

He’s clearly at home with the audience for this work-in-progress show, and amiably takes on an elderly ‘boomer’ a few rows back.

His riff on the idea of a visit to the optician as a way of cheering himself up, is a typically left-field approach to a subject you wouldn’t think has much comic potential.

Bugeja is clearly enjoying himself onstage tonight and the gags he tries out, though a little long-winded, as you might expect from someone trying out new material, definitely hit the funny bones of the audience, who give him a rapturous send-off at the end.

There’s no doubt this will be a great show when its work has fully progressed.
