Children from 44 schools across the Bath have entered this year’s Fireworks Safety poster competition sponsored by Bath Building Society and supported by The Rotary Club Bath.
The winners of the five categories were invited to a ceremony with The Mayor at The Guildhall on Monday and all the winning children were given a money voucher to open a Bath Building Society Account, a 51 piece art set and a Bath Building Society goody bag.
The winners were chosen from over 6,000 entries.
4 – 5 years:
1st : Maisie Wallis, Combe Down Primary School;
2nd: Aurora Newman-Lewis, Widcombe Infants School;
3rd: Grace Gill, St Stephens Primary School.
6 – 7 years:
1st: Ebonnie Dutton, St Martin’s Primary School;
2nd: Emelia Joynt, Freshford Primary School ;
3rd: Aiyana Baxter, Moorlands Junior School.
8 – 9 years:
1st: Thomas Frost, St Phillips Primary School;
2nd Lois Edwards, Combe Down Primary School;
3rd: Charlotte Walker, Moorlands Junior School.
10 years plus:
1st: Louis Bain, Oldfield Park Junior School;
2nd: Lucy Frost, St Phillips Primary School;
3rd: Edmund Campion-Dye, Swainswick Primary School.
Special Schools:
1st: Aaron Conner, Threeways School,
2nd: Hannah Griffin, Threeways School,
3rd: Lewis Fussell, Threeways School.
The overall winner of the competition was Thomas Frost, age 8 from St Phillips Primary School.
The posters were judged on their Fireworks safety message and artistic merit.
Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of Bath Building Society said: “Congratulations to all the winners, the standard of the entries this year was excellent!”
The judges for this year’s competition were: Tiffany Hardie-Evans from Bath Building Society, Councillor Martin Veal, Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council, Councillor Cherry Beath the Mayor of Bath, Dan Stride from Avon Fire & Rescue Service and Alan Keeling the President of The Rotary Club Bath.
All the children that entered the competition will be given a Free Child Voucher that can be exchanged for a ticket to the Display when purchasing an Adult ticket.
The Fireworks Display will take place on Saturday 2nd November this year at The Recreation Ground and will be run by The Rotary Club and sponsored by Bath Building Society.
Tickets can be bought from all Bath Building Society branches, Bath Rugby Ticket Office, the Students’ Union at the University of Bath and the Bath Box Office Ticket Agency (Bath Tourism Office).
Standard Adult admission costs £5 if bought in advance, and £6 on the gate. Children’s tickets are £3 in advance and £4 on the gate.
All money raised at this year’s event will go to the headline charities Julian House, Bath Opportunity-Pre School and charities supported by The Rotary Club.
