A group of local community radio stations have teamed up to broadcast a special carol service later this week to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
As many carol services have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the group of radio stations, including Radio Bath, West Wilts Radio, BA1 Radio and Somerset Valley FM, will be broadcasting the special festive programme on Thursday 17th December at 7pm.
Featured in the service will be traditional carols recorded by the choirs of Bath Abbey and the Band of the Salvation Army.
Chris Samuel, a community choir leader and presenter at West Wilts Radio, came up with the initiative.
He said: “At this time of year, communal singing is usually everywhere, but in 2020 we won’t have the chance to sing along in carol services.
“I wanted to harness the idea of everyone gathering on their own doorsteps and instead of clapping, sing carols for carers.”
Simon McNeill-Ritchie from Radio Bath said: “Community Radio is perfectly placed to get directly into people’s homes across the region and be the catalyst for people coming together in this way.”
Community Fundraiser Verity Clark added: “Dorothy House definitely sees itself as part of the local community it serves, and we’re delighted to be part of this joyous event.”
