The complete programme for this year’s FilmBath Festival has been announced, with forty feature films to be shown over ten days next month.
The 32nd annual event, the South West’s biggest film festival, will run from 4th to 13th November at venues across the city, including The Little, Chapel Arts and new festival venue Roper Theatre at Hayesfield School.
For the first time ever, tickets to all events will be priced on a Pay-What-You-Can sliding scale, starting at £2, ensuring the festival is accessible to everyone.
The FilmBath Festival is giving Bath audiences an exclusive first chance to see some of the year’s most hotly-anticipated films before they come out in the cinema.
Highlights include Sam Mendes’ love-letter to the joys of cinema Empire of Light starring Olivia Colman and Toby Jones; Cannes best actress winner Vicky Krieps starring as Empress Elizabeth of Austria in the sumptuous, contemporary costume drama Corsage; The Silent Twins, a remarkable true story of Black twin girls who formed a silent bond of secrecy in the face of racial prejudice and Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult in the hilarious dark comedy The Menu.
In 2014, Holly Tarquini of FilmBath launched the F-Rating, a symbol that clearly identified films directed and / or written by women.
FilmBath continues to champion female talent with over 50% of the films at this year’s festival directed by women.
FilmBath Producer Jocelyn Chandler-Hawkins said: “I’m thrilled to have joined the team at FilmBath to oversee this year’s festival. Taking over from Holly Tarquini are big shoes to fill but I’m up for the challenge!
“We’ve got a World of Cinema coming to the city of Bath this year. Highlights for me include The Gravedigger’s Wife, Funny Pages and The Silent Twins which for me all showcase the human spirit in various forms.”
FilmBath Chair Martin Haigh added: “I’m so looking forward to having a great excuse to get out to experience cinema again. I know that our programmers will have unearthed some real gems that wouldn’t ordinarily make it to Bath on general release.
“At a time when budgets are tricky for everyone, we are delighted to be launching our Pay-What-You-Can scheme, making our films as accessible as possible to everyone in our community.”
Tickets to all events are on sale now and are priced on a Pay-What-You-Can basis.
