Sitting in a beer garden basking in the sun, it seems like summer has finally come to stay in Bath. However, if you feel like doing something a little more active, interesting or social than getting a tan, theres a fair few events that are coming up which are sure to delight, intrigue and entertain the masses.
Here is my round up of the best events that are happening in and around Bath this June.
Fringe Festival
Having started on the 24th of May, The Fringe Festival is in full swing up until the 9th of June, boasting acts, events and performances from a wide and eclectic range of performers. Venues like Komedia, The Museum of Bath and The Old Theatre Royal are all getting involved, illustrating the talent that Bath has to offer.
Top picks include Bath Spa University Student Theatre’s performance of Alice in Wonderland, which is being performed at The Museum of Bath at 8pm on the 6th of June, the Bath City Bass’s ‘Hip Hop Special’ performed at Green Park Tavern on the 1st at 9pm and a performance of ‘As You Like it’ by the Lord Chamberlains Men at the Botanical Gardens on the 1st, which will take place at 7:30pm.
This is just a preview of the many great, weird and wonderful things that are happening in and around Bath during this period, and if I were you I’d definitely grab a free programme and get involved!
Bath Flea And Vintage Market @ Bath Racecourse
Despite cutting down on the amount of flea markets put on by the racecourse, it means when one does come around, it is bigger and better than ever. Boasting a huge range of unique, antique and eclectic stalls, you’re bound to come away with more than you intended. Perfect for shopping mavens or antique collectors alike, it’s packed full of old, new and interesting things to captivate your attention.
Happening on the 2nd of June, and running from 9am to 4.30pm, what better way to spend a sunny, summery Sunday? Entry is just £3 and more information can be found on the bath racecourse website: http://www.bath-racecourse.co.uk
Dessert Masterclass
For the foodie nation that occupies Bath, this next event is pretty special. Allium Brasserie is joining up with the renowned pastry chef Claire Clark MBE to offer a once-in-a-lifetime Dessert Master-class. Happening on the 7th of June, and including a demonstration by Clark and a 2-course lunch, it’s a perfect way to improve your skills and treat yourself all at once.
Priced at £27.50 per person, it’s also reasonably priced, meaning that you won’t feel too bad indulging in the food and drink that will no doubt accompany such an experience.
Coronation Diamond Jubilee Concert
Bath Abbey is continually playing host to numerous different musical events, and June sees them doing no different. On the 8th, in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Abbey will put on a concert featuring a host of talent and music, that will span across the ages.
Among the performers will be the Bath Young Musician of the Year 2012 Oliver Sourbut on the Tenor Horn, Nurry Lee on the piano, and The Norland College Choir, which is the renowned Bath Male Choir who were featured on the BBC programme ‘Last Choir Standing.’ Starting at 7:30pm, the Concert is priced at £12.00 for adults and £6 for children, with all other information being available at the Bath Box Office Website: http://bathboxoffice.org.uk
Bath Ales Charity Biking Bonanza
Another popular summer event with locals, the Bath Ales Charity Bike Bonanza comes around for another year, taking place between Bath and Bristol. As in previous years, there are three cycle routes you can choose from – or if your bike pedals are a little rusty, you are more than welcome to turn up at lunchtime and enjoy the bar, barbecue and live music that will be on offer at the Hare House, the Bath Ales new head-office.
In aid of the local charity the FAB Club, there will be a plethora of ways to help out and give just a little to help such a great cause. Happening on the 22nd of June, and starting at 10:30am, its an event for all the family. More information about this can be found on the Bath Ales website: http://www.bathales.com
Ministry Of Burlesque ‘High Tease’ @ Komedia
Need something to do for a night out this month? Komedia is putting on a night of passion, naughtiness and wit with Ministry of Burlesque on the 28th June. Starting at 8pm, it’s a perfect excuse to put your glad-rags on and get out and have some devilishly good fun. More information about the event can be found on the Komedia, Bath website: http://www.komedia.co.uk/bath
There’s More?!
A couple of notable artists and acts are coming to Bath this month, to play their music and draw a crowd. At Moles, the new up-and-coming singer-songwriter Lewis Watson is playing on the 14th of June, and at Komedia on the 5th, the X-Factor Alumni District 3 are playing, with a host of other acts on the bill as well.
On the 28th June, the Holburne Museum will be hosting a Great Western Wine Summer Tasting in aid of Dorothy House Hospice, and on the 10th Circo Bar will be running a Clothes Swapping event, again in aid of Charity.
As you can see, there is a whole host of things to be getting involved with during this upcoming month, and what’s great about it, is that this article only touches the surface of it! Even if it thrashes it down for the next 30 days, there is no excuse for feeling down and out, as theres such a lot to do! So Bath, get out there, get involved and see what’s happening!
