Work is to take place later this month to reconstruct a main road in Westfield, near Radstock, and reduce the need for future maintenance.
The section of the A367 Wells Road in Westfield between Elm Tree Avenue and the fuel station near Inner Elm Terrace has deteriorated over time and is now in need of a full reconstruction in places, rather than just conventional resurfacing.
This work will start on Monday, 25th July, and will take place under a full road closure between 7am and 7pm. It is anticipated this will take a week to complete, weather permitting.
Given the depth of reconstruction, it may be required at times to keep the road closed overnight to ensure the road can be raised to a safe level for public use.
Warning signs will be in place to provide information and any updates, and diversion signs will also be in place throughout the work.
Councillor Anthony Clarke (Conservative, Lansdown), Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The Council has carried out short term repairs to this section of the Wells Road over the last few years, but it is now in desperate need of repair.
“We are therefore going to completely reconstruct the problem areas, rather than allow further damage to occur, which would cause greater long term disruption.
“By taking preventative action now, we will reduce long-term costs and future disruption. These essential repair works are being carried out during the school holidays to minimise disruption, but we apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank residents in advance for their patience.”
Access to properties will be maintained as often as possible, safety permitting, and will be controlled by traffic marshals who will be on hand to help and provide advice.
