Modern pentathlete Jamie Cooke, athlete Kirsten McAslan, skier Lloyd Wallace and skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold are the latest winners of the Team Bath athlete of the month awards.
The awards, which are supported by REVO Eyewear and Ellis & Killpartrick, once again showcased the outstanding calibre of sporting talent at the University of Bath.
Cooke and McAslan won the February awards after enjoying success at home and abroad.
A gold medal at the Sarasota World Cup in the United States was the perfect start to a big season for Cooke, a former World Junior Champion who is aiming for more silverware at this summer’s European Championships at the University of Bath.
“Winning at the World Cup was nice because you put so much work in during the winter and you don’t know how it is going to until you get out there,” said Cooke, who is competing at World Cup 4 in Hungary next week.
“It is fantastic for my efforts to have been recognised with this award and to be in such great company.”
McAslan, who is completing her Biochemistry studies at the university this year, won the 400m title during a dramatic Sainsbury’s British Indoor Championships final and went on to claim a 4x400m relay silver medal at the European Indoor Championships the following month.
“It was a really nice surprise to get the email saying I had won this award,” said McAslan, who has just returned from a three-week altitude training camp in South Africa.
“There are lots of great athletes here at Bath and it is a real privilege to receive this prize.”
McAslan will begin her outdoor season by representing Bath at the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Championships from May 2-4 – she won the 400m title at the event two years ago.
The athlete of the month accolades for March went to winter-sport duo Yarnold and Wallace.
A dominant victory at the World Championships completed an exceptional 13 months for British Skeleton slider Yarnold, which also saw her crowned as Olympic, European and World Cup champion.
University of Bath Sports Performance student Wallace won Great Britain’s first-ever Europa Cup Aerials gold medal during a magnificent March, which ended with a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Italy.
“It is awesome to win this award, an absolute honour,” said Wallace, who has Dual Career status and is supported by the university’s Elite Athlete Fund.
“This is a high-performance university, so just to be classed in the same league as the athletes who train here is pretty crazy.”
Each of the winners receives a piece of REVO Eyewear from the Ellis & Killpartrick store in New Bond Street, Bath.
