Locals Celebrated At Chairman’s Sport Awards 2015

The achievements of volunteers, coaches and athletes have been celebrated by Cllr Martin Veal, Chairman of the Council, at the Chairman’s Sport Awards 2015 in The Guildhall.

Celebrating their 10th anniversary, the Chairman’s Sport Awards recognise the achievements and dedication of local sports people, volunteers and coaches.

Katrina Hart, Paralympic sprinter, attended and presented the awards with the Chairman.

The Chairman’s Special Award for an individual or group who has contributed to the ‘Health through Sport’ theme, was given to Helen Conner, from Bath for her volunteer efforts in setting up the Bath Skyline parkrun.

A special junior award went to Sarah Long, 16, who cares for her sister, Georgie, who has Williams Syndrome and has still achieved so much as part of Team Bath Athletics.

Cricket coach Tom Baker, from Bath Cricket Club was given a lifetime achievement award for his work promoting active lifestyles and cricket to children across Bath and North East Somerset.

Other winners included:

  • Young Volunteer in Sport (sponsored by try active): Hayley Chivers, Writhlington
  • Volunteer in Sport: Andrew Turner, Bath / Aqua Sulis Performance Swimming Club
  • Young Achiever in Sport: Corey Walkes, Radstock
  • Achiever in Sport with a learning/physical disability: Emma Welch, Chilcompton
  • Contribution to Inclusive Sport (sponsored by MANI Athletics Club): Nick Dewfall, Keynsham
  • Participation Coach of the Year: Paul Atkins, Shoscombe/Team Bath Buccaneers HC
  • Performance Coach of the Year (sponsored by Relish Running Races): John Dougall, Aqua Sulis Performance Swimming Club
  • Official of the Year: Royce Menezes, Team Bath Buccaneers HC
  • Sports Club of the Year (sponsored by Club Buzz): Minerva Bath Rowing Club
  • Contribution to Sport in Education: Joanne Ranall, St John’s Catholic Primary School, Bath
  • Promoting Lifelong Participation Award (sponsored by Aquaterra): Bath Rambling Club
  • Healthy Lifestyles Award (sponsored by Sirona Care and Health): Paul Smith and Lisa Seviour – both from Radstock

All award nominees received a certificate and winners in each category were presented with a piece of engraved, Aqua Blue Glass.
