Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division, has signed a new partnership with Bath Spa University, which will see a series of academic opportunities funded by the Bank.
The partnership was signed by Simon Bray, Director Santander Universities UK, and Professor Christina Slade, Vice-Chancellor of Bath Spa University, on 19th September.
Professor Slade said: “I am delighted to welcome Santander to Bath Spa University, and to be part of a global network, providing international opportunities for students and staff. I am looking forward to developing our relationship with Santander Universities.”
Simon Bray, Director Santander Universities UK said: “With the signing of this agreement we hope to make a difference to the university community at Bath Spa, giving the opportunity to study or conduct research abroad to many students and academics, among other benefits.
“This is just the beginning of what will certainly develop into a strong partnership between both institutions.”
The agreement will provide funding for:
- Scholarships for under/postgraduate students to study at the University;
- Mobility scholarships for staff and students of the University to study or conduct research overseas;
- Support for enterprise and entrepreneurial initiatives/projects;
- Part-funded internships opportunities with local SMEs.
In addition, Santander UK will be opening a new branch on the campus of Bath Spa University in the next few weeks. The branch will provide full banking services to the university community.
Moreover, the Bank has been working together with the university to launch a new Bath Spa student card.
The card will allow students and staff access to buildings, borrow books from the library and use printing facilities, as well as acting as a debit card for those members of the university who are also Santander customers.
Through its Santander Universities Global Division, Santander has supported higher education in the UK since 2007, providing funding for scholarships, mobility awards and research grants with the aim of supporting students and academic staff.
After the signing of this agreement with Bath Spa Santander is now partnering with 76 universities across the UK and had over 1,100 university partners worldwide.
Since 1997 over €1 billion has been invested by Santander in universities. At the Universia 2014 Conference in Rio de Janeiro the bank announced their future commitment to higher education with €700m of investment over the next four years.
