Council Candidate Unveils £1/Pint Somerset Cider Plan

As part of a campaign to support Somerset Heritage, an Independent Candidate standing in Midsomer Norton says he wants to see the Council heavily subsidise cider producing farms.

Richard ‘Tex’ Clarke, who grew up in Welton, says the council should be supporting Somerset Heritage in a similar way to how it supports the heritage of the City of Bath.

Tex said: “Everybody loves a good pint! Especially a pint of Somerset cider, locally produced and sold.

“We see B&NES Council supporting the heritage of Bath – now its time they showed their support for Somerset Heritage too.

“What better way to do this than to subsidise all local cider producers so we can enjoy a pint for a £1 in one of local pubs?”

Mr Clarke says if he gets elected on 7th May, he’ll lobby the council strongly to make this happen.

Tex’s other policies include ensuring more ‘get-back-to-work’ courses are held locally, rather than in Bath.

He also wants to see a return to traditional state-run, state-funded council housing, rather than having to see people deal with the housing organisation Curo.

He is also strongly opposed to the Bedroom Tax introduced by the government; “this is a modern form of the poll tax that is financially crippling families – it’s nothing but pure evil!”, said Tex.

Tex’s wife Mandy will also be standing as an Independent Candidate in the Midsomer Norton North ward.

Hmm, well said Mr Clarke – I remember you telling me personally that you
were not co-opted onto the Peasedown Parish Council on at least two
occasions because “I have problems reading and writing” You have
obviously taken lessons! I also note that, as there will not be an
election in Peasedown, your nomination has been accepted so you will
have obtained your dream and be a Parish Councillor.

    Whilst I obviously
support local businesses I wouldn’t want my Council Tax spent on
supporting Cider manufacturing – yes, offer support/advice/encouragement
or whatever – but, whilst we still have food banks in Somerset, I think
this embarrassing situation should be addressed first. I appreciate
that the Cider industry supports Party in the Park which your Mentor,
Nathan Hartley, arranges and I can see why you would want to promote
    this.
    Good luck Midsomer Norton!!!
