On Monday, Ben Howlett, MP for Bath, asked a parliamentary question in the pensions debate in the House of Commons on the topic of carers and praised the work of the Bath Carer’s Centre.
He started his speech by stating: “as the Secretary of State will know the Bath Carer’s Centre in my own constituency does a superb job at supporting carers and their families.”
He then went onto to ask the Secretary of State, Rt. Hon. Iain Duncan Smith MP, for an update on government plans for carers, he said: “Can the Secretary of State give an update on what assurances I can give them as to what the Governments plans are on supporting carers in the coming years?”
The Secretary of State replied by stating: “We’ve done a huge amount to support carers in the last Parliament. We intend to continue to protect and support carers throughout this Parliament. Carers do a huge amount to support people, both in the National Health Service, but also people with disabilities.
“It has been our promise and our pledge, and we continue to support carers and will continue to support carers.”
Janine Woodward-Grant, Manager at the Bath Carer’s Centre, commented: “It’s fantastic to see Ben recognising the vital work that carers do within our community, and it’s great to hear the government will continue to support carers knowing the importance of the work that they do.”
