Bath MP, Ben Howlett, in association with the Avon and Bristol Law Centre, are in discussions to launch a pro-bono service that will offer free legal advice to Bath residents.
Welcoming the initiative with the Avon and Bristol Law Centre, Ben Howlett said: “We have received many queries from local residents daunted by the prospects of having to deal with complex legal issues, including employment and family issues through to access to services and immigration enquiries.
“For many, their reluctance to seek legal advice is because of their fears over high costs when in many cases they just need their minds put at rest and advice on how to address matters of concern.”
The Bath Citizens Advice Bureau and local law firm Stone King are also involved in the planning discussions, which begin in December.
Encouraging other law firms in the area to become involved, Ben said: “This is a very worthwhile way to contribute to the community by those who can give professional advice.
“The more law firms who become involved the more the burden is shared and the more effective the service.
“I would really encourage local lawyers to get involved by contacting my office and attending our discussion events.”
Ben Howlett will be supporting the 14th annual National Pro Bono week which will take place between 2nd and 6th November 2016.
