Emergency services have been working to free a woman who was trapped underneath the back wheels of a bus in the centre of Bath this morning.
The incident, which happened just after 11.20am at the junction of James Street West and Westgate Buildings, closed roads around the area.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the woman, thought to be in her 80s, trapped and suffering from leg injuries.
Crews used a ratchet strap to secure the wheel of the bus and then airbags were placed underneath.
Working with a doctor from the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) who was on scene, the airbags were then inflated and the woman was freed.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that two pedestrians were involved in the collision, one of them believed to be an elderly man.
The woman was freed just after 12pm and taken to Southmead hospital in Bristol in a life-threatening condition. The elderly man sustained minor injuries and was taken to the RUH.
The bus involved was an X39, which services the Bath to Bristol route.
