A school crossing patrol which was at risk of being lost following the summer break is to be retained by the Council, following a request by a local ward member Councillor.
Following the request by local ward member Councillor David Veale, the Council has offered to retain the crossing patrol site at Camerton Church School, on a temporary basis.
The crossing patrol will remain until proposed traffic calming measures in the vicinity of the Daglands are completed in 2015/16.
The school will be included in the consultation exercise for the traffic calming scheme.
The Council have now informed the school of their decision and will be advertising the post for the school crossing patrol on the Council’s web page.
They have also asked the school to make this vacancy known amongst their parents and local residents, so they can let us know if anyone is interested in applying.
A petition was launched last week calling for the reinstatement of the school crossing patrol at the Primary School, after a new one was not employed following the summer break.
In a move criticised as a ‘petty cost-cutting exercise’ by Councillor Veale, Lib Dem-run B&NES has said that the school no longer meets the authority’s criteria to qualify for the Crossing Patrol, despite the fact the school has had a patrol for many years, and with the Council’s own figures showing it will only save the authority around £2,500 a year.
